Verdict
The Czech Small Arms SA VZ61 Combat is the civilian semi-automatic adaptation of the Vz61 Skorpion — the Czechoslovak Cold War-era pistol-caliber submachine gun adopted by Warsaw Pact forces in 1961 and used by Eastern European military and law-enforcement bodies through the 1990s. The civilian VZ61 Combat retains the original's compact configuration and folding wire stock, with extended barrel and pinned-magazine configurations for the various export markets' regulatory requirements. The platform is the historical predecessor of the larger 9mm CZ Scorpion EVO 3 (Batch 8, entry 76) — both share the "Scorpion" name in their lineage. SOR/2024-248 named the VZ61 Combat on December 5, 2024. The entry rounds out the Index's Czech-manufacturer postmortem cluster alongside the CZ Bren 2, CZ 805 Bren, CZ858/Vz58, CZ Scorpion EVO 3, and CZ91S — the complete CZ / Czech-export civilian rifle catalogue on the Canadian market has now been prohibited.
