Verdict
The Remington 700 has been continuously produced since 1962. Sixty-four years on, it is the platform Canadian sport shooters most often start from when they begin building toward precision competition — not because the factory rifle is exceptional, but because the receiver's two-lug cylindrical geometry has become the chassis industry's standard footprint. MDT, Manners, Magpul, Bergara's HMR action — all are sized to drop a Rem 700 receiver into. The custom-rifle industry quietly assumes Rem 700 dimensions. The Index reads the 700 at 1/15: bolt-action, common centrefire, zero across the rest. The entry is on the Index as the recognized parent in a category where most other entries cite the Rem 700 as a sibling or as a chassis-compatibility note. Continuous production through Remington Arms' 2020 bankruptcy and the 2021 RemArms restructuring; the 700 outlasted its parent company.
