The Springfield M1A is the civilian semi-automatic version of the US Rifle M14, which served as the US Army's standard infantry rifle from 1957 until replaced by the M16 in the late 1960s. Springfield Armory Inc. (the commercial company, distinct from the historical US government armory of the same name) began commercial production in 1971.
