Verdict
The IWI Galil ACE is IWI's second prohibited family alongside the Tavor (Batch 2). The Galil ACE modernizes the original IDF Galil ARM (1972) — Israel's adaptation of the Finnish RK 62, which was itself an adaptation of the Soviet AK-47 — with AR-style controls and a modular handguard suited to the current sport-shooting and service-style market. Canadian shooters bought it for the AK-platform lineage in a modernized package, often as a complement to or replacement for the AK-pattern rifles already prohibited under SOR/2020-96. SOR/2024-248 named the Galil ACE family on December 5, 2024 alongside the Tavor TAR21, X95, Tavor 7, and Tavor SAR — the complete IWI civilian rifle catalogue prohibited in one Order in Council. The Index now carries two IWI parent entries — Tavor and Galil ACE — both Already Gone, both for the same lineage-based regulatory reasons.
