Verdict

The Lever Arms LA-K12 Puma is the Ban-Risk Index's first shotgun entry — added on 2026-05-27 when the scope expanded to cover shotguns as a class. Lever Arms Service Ltd. is a Vancouver, BC-based importer that branded the Norinco K12 bullpup shotgun for the Canadian market in 2014. The "LA" in the model is the importer's prefix, not "lever-action" — the LA-K12 is a semi-automatic gas-piston bullpup, the same operating principle as a modern AR-style rifle but in a 12-gauge platform. SOR/2025-86 named it on March 7, 2025 alongside the Canuck Spectre, the Derya FD12, and the Ranger Bullpup — every bullpup shotgun on the Canadian market in one stroke. The rubric reads cleanly at 12/15. The entry's other purpose is methodological: it tests whether the rubric framework can score shotguns. The answer, on this entry, is yes — though the calibre dimension needs a shotgun-aware reading in future entries.
