M+M Industries is an American manufacturer that built the M10X specifically to clear the Canadian RCMP Firearms Reference Table as Non-restricted. The rifle uses the AK-47's long-stroke gas piston and accepts AK-pattern magazines but is engineered around a non-restricted action and barrel-length configuration. The RCMP classified it Non-restricted in 2017. Canadian shooters bought it as the Non-restricted alternative to the AK platform — hunters used the 7.62×39 for medium game, sport shooters used it for service-rifle style competition. SOR/2024-248 named it in December 2024 — not for what the FRT classification said about it, but for the silhouette. The M10X is the case study for the gap between administrative classification and OIC reach: a rifle the RCMP itself had approved as Non-restricted was prohibited by Order in Council seven years later, because the pathway that names firearms by family is not the same pathway that classifies them by feature set.
